Detail; I'm working on the wet sand. The foreground pebbles are complete. Tone and colour are particularly critical here if I am to achieve the desired effect of wet sand so I have spent quite a bit of time mixing colours and trying them out on the painting, making minor adjustments along the way until I was happy with the colour range.

Great colour balance in this piece, very convincing. The large, almost featureless, areas of a painting must present one of the biggest challenges. The empty spaces are often as important as the subject though.

Hi Paul, yeah the ice is a bit of a challenge but having studied the effects of light on/in ice I've come to understand it - makes it a lot easier to paint.
